LMDE 2 Betsy

Short Bytes: LMDE 2 Betsy is a less popular version of Linux Mint that’s based on Debian. Usually recommended for experienced users, LMDE 2 gets all the new features before regular Mint users. Now, the Mint team has updated the LMDE 2 Betsy ISO images with all the updates released over the course of past two years. If you’re interested, you can go ahead and download the 32-bit and 64-bit version.

Most of you might be knowing that Linux Mint is one of the most popular Linux distributions around. Built on the top of Ubuntu, it comes with multiple desktop environments. But, there’s another version of Linux Mint that’s based on Debian. It’s called LMDE, i.e., Linux Mint Debian Edition.

Linux Mint developers call LMDE a very exciting Linux distribution targeted at experienced users. It’s not compatible with PPAs, and it lacks a couple of features. That’s why it’s not recommended for new users. So, what’s the point of LMDE?

It’s slightly faster than Linux Mint. There are no point releases in LMDE 2. When ready, the newly developed features get directly pushed into LMDE 2. Compared to the regular Linux Mint users, LMDE users don’t have to wait for the new packages to mature. So, it’s risky but more exciting.linux mint lmde 2 betsy 3

New ISO images for LMDE 2 “Betsy”

LMDE 2 was launched long back in 2015, and it hasn’t got some major upgrade. As the ISO images were outdated, a new installation would need lots of updated packages. With that in mind, the Linux Mint team has decided to refresh the ISO images.

Over the past two years, LMDE 2 received tons of updates and many improvements have been ported to regular Mint ISOs. The new ISO installation image contains all these updates.linux mint lmde 2 betsy 4

Earlier this week, the Mint team released the refreshed and stable ISO images for LMDE 2 Betsy. It’s available in two flavors — Cinnamon and MATE. The KDE and Xfce editions are not available.
